| ChromaBlast FAQ |
- Does it matter where I install the ChromaBlast ink cartridges in the Epson 4880?
Yes. In a hybrid setup, the ChromaBLAST cartridges
should be inserted on the right, in slots 5 - 8. Please refer to the QuickStart Guide for more specific instructions and a pictorial ink installation guide.
- What are the recommended heat press settings for ChromaBlast?
Press at 375°F for 40 seconds with 60lbs of pressure.
- How long does the ChromaBLAST image last on cotton T-Shirts?
It depends on the care you take in washing the image.
We have washed and dried images 10 times, and the image still looks good.
Follow the care instructions: Machine wash cold, inside out, with like colors. DO not use bleach. Tumble dry medium heat. Do not iron decoration.
- Can I print on cotton only, or can i use ChromaBlast for other fabrics?
ChromaBlast was developed specifically for cotton shirts. The unique chemical properties of the ChromaBlast ink and paper combine to seal the image to cotton fibers. Application on cotton/polyester blends will result in reduced washfastness. Application on polyester and acrylic is not recommended.
- Can I print on shirts other than white?
ChromaBLAST is only suitable on white or pastel (light colored) cotton garments.
- What is the cost for the ink and paper to make one t-shirt?
Imaging cost depends on the size of the image, the amount of ink used, and saturation levels. Average cost for an 10" x 12" ChromaBLAST image is $1.00 for ink, and $1.50 for paper. See the Profit and R.O.I. table for more specific information.
- I've heard there's a tangible residue left on the shirt. What is this and how do I get rid of it?
The ChromaBlast paper does leave a slightly yellow tangible residue on the garment at the time of the initial transfer. This will wash out when the garment is laundered. To make sure the residue comes out in the wash, do these two things as soon as the heat press cycle is complete. Peel the ChromaBlast paper from the shirt, and stretch the garment.
- What is the cost for the ink and paper to make one t-shirt?
Imaging cost depends on the size of the image, the amount of ink used, and saturation levels. The average cost for a 10" x 12" transfer printed on DarkJET will be 50¢ - $1.10 for ink and $3.00 - $3.40 for the paper. Use these as estimates only. See the Profit and R.O.I. table for more specific information.
- Can I use this system on an Apple Mac?
No. The drivers work under Windows XP/VISTA only.

| DarkJET FAQ |
- How long does an image printed on DarkJET image last on cotton T-Shirts?
It depends on the care you take in washing the image.
Images printed with aqueous ink on DarkJET are rated for 15 - 20 washings with proper care. It is recommended that you wait at least 24 hours after the initial imprint to launder the garment. For the initial wash, turn the garment inside out and wash separately in cool water. Immediately removed from washing machine and put in dryer on warm setting. Leaving the garment in the washing machine wet for extended periods of time may cause ink to bleed. Never use bleach. Do not iron the transfer.
- Can I print on shirts other than white?
DarkJET can be applied to garments of any color.
- Does the DarkJET require pre-treatment or white ink for dark shirts?
No. Since DarkJET is white, adhesive backed print media, the printed image rests on the media, not the fabric. The white media serves as the under base providing the desired level of contrast and producing true, vivid color.
- What are the recommended heat press settings for DarkJET?
Pre-heat the garment to remove excess moisture. Allow it to cool to room temperature. Cover with Teflon sheet or application tape. Then press at 350°F for 20 seconds with medium pressure. Allow the transfer to cool to room temperature before removing Teflon sheet or application tape.
- What is the best method to use for transferring a contour cut DarkJET image to the garment?
Once the image has been printed, cut, and weeded, the transfer to the garment can be done by hand or with application tape. If done by hand, take care not to stretch or wrinkle the image too much. A few wrinkles are okay as long as it is laid flat on the garment before pressing. If you prefer to use transfer tape, we recommend Siser ColorMASK or a comparable tape designed specifically for thermal transfer applications. It has a high enough tack level to remove the DarkJET from its liner easily, yet leaves no adhesive residue on the garment.
High tack paper tapes such as R-Tape 4075 or Main PerfecTear may also be used, but these do not always pull the DarkJET from its liner easily and they tend to leave adhesive residue on the garment.
- Can I print on cotton only, or can i use DarkJET for other fabrics?
DarkJET can be applied to cotton, polyester, acrylic and blended garments. We do not recommend using it on nylon, silk, leather and other fabrics which may be damaged by the 300°F temperatures required for application of the transfer
