How Do I Begin to Create a Sign Using My Software?

  • It's easier than you think.  Here's a step-by-step method to use in creating that first sign using your signmaking software:
  • Open a new document and specify the substrate size.
  • Choose the text tool (the "T" icon on your toolbar) by positioning the arrow over it and then clicking the left button on your mouse.  As you move the arrow back onto the working area, notice that it has changed into a cursor bar.  Click again and type in the text of a sample logo. (in this case "Vinyl Express").
  • Now 'select' your sample text logo.  (Hint: Click on the arrow tool and use it to drag across the sample.  You 'select' by clicking and depressing the left button on your mouse and drawing a rectangle around the entire text.  Once it's surrounded, you may release the left mouse button.)
  • If your logo needs an outline, go to TOOLS (at the very top of your screen) and click to reveal the INLINE/OUTLINE feature.  Choose that feature.
  • For an outline, specify a distance of 0.015, and a width of 0.00.  Choose red for your color and make sure you have 'outline' chosen.   Click OK.   (To select a color, just click on the desired color.  In this instance, RED on the color tool bar on the right).
  • Now 'select' your logo again and go to ARRANGE (at the very top of your screen) and click to reveal GROUP.  Choose this feature.
  • From here you will resize your image.  To do so, 'select' your sample text logo, go to ARRANGE again and now choose RESIZE.  For the height, specify 6 inches.  Notice that the length changes proportionally.  Click OK.
  • Now it is time to plot your image.
  • Make sure your cutter is on and ready to receive information.  Go to FILE and choose CUT/PLOT.
  • You should now be at "Cut Plot Selected Objects or Colors" screen.
  • For this lesson, we will plot all colors at once.
  • Choose "Plot All Colors" by your color bar (the left arrow icon).
  • Click CUT.  You should now be cutting out our logo!
